Youth Outreach

One of the High Desert public service goals is Youth Outreach. The HDARC Youth-Outreach Program defines "Youth" as any person between the ages of 11 and 25, approximately middle school (6th Grade) age up to an individual pursuing a post-graduate degree. HDARC welcomes youth within this range, who have a curious energetic, and keen desire for scientific learning. Our goal is to engage younger folks with a STEM/STEAM focus and welcome maturing adults who wish to pursue the joy of learning. We broadly wish to engage youth participation in the amateur radio art & hobby, offering mentorship, teaching, and a variety of programs with a vision for guiding their development into the leaders of tomorrow. The HDARC recognizes that our degree of success may be unmeasurable and distant. However, we dedicate our near-term committment to this mission, knowing that we commit ourselves to a generational embrace of RF sciences and its benefit to youth. 

Amateur radio involves a broad mix of STEM and practical skills, spanning electronics, digital technology, and emergency preparedness. Students or scholars apply math & science knowledge in a hands-on hobby that builds valuable real-world capabilities, ranging from circuit construction to global communication.

HDARC has worked with both the ASK Academy & the DATA Academy scholars in assisting them in all aspects of amateur radio from helping them to setup clubs, to the testing for a license, and, if they pass their technician exam, the students were given a handheld radio.
