School Outreach
Amateur radio involves a broad mix of STEM and practical skills, spanning electronics, digital technology, and emergency preparedness. Students or scholars apply math & science knowledge in a hands-on hobby that builds valuable real-world capabilities, ranging from circuit construction to global communication.
HDARC has worked with both the ASK Academy & the DATA Academy scholars in assisting them in all aspects of amateur radio from helping them to setup clubs, to the testing for a license, and, if they pass their technician exam, the students were given a handheld radio.
In collaboration with APS, NASA, High Desert Amateur Radio Club™, ARRL, and many others, the ISS was contacted by Amateur Radio Operators and several area students on April 22, 2016. Some of the pictures from the International Space Station contact at Valley High School.
